Denada is a prolific singer with 17 years of experience in the Indonesian music industry. Kicking off her singing career in the 1990’s, she made her way through in the “Asia Bagus!” contest, and prevailed as winner in this highly acclaimed Asia-wide singing competition. Singing in rap genre, she made her mark in scoring 99 out of 100 – the highest ever score any singer scored in the competition. Rightfully so, she was then named as “the first female rapper in Asia”.
The single “Sambutlah” from her first album “Sambutlah – Kujelang Hari” (1995) earned another international award, MTV Asia Viewer’s Choice Award, and made her the first ever Indonesian to successfully claimed an MTV Award. Since then, Denada had launched 6 more albums, presenting her talents in rap, pop, dangdut (Indonesian folk music) and dance-rock. Her shining career also earned her many contracts in brand endorsements.
She also has a great interest to the folk Indonesian dances and martial art (pencak silat). Denada has mastered the pride of the nation dance “Jaipong” since childhood. Through this talent, she is more than often involved in Indonesia international cultural missions across the globe.
Apart from her singing career, Denada has many roles in her social activities. After finishing her diploma in business in Perth, Australia in 2003, she started promoting diving and voluntarily mandated to be the ambassador of Marine Tourism of Berau, East Kalimantan, in 2009. She is also a permanent supporter of Greenpeace and WWF and a friend of UNICEF. Driven by her love to reading, she initiated a collective support of more than 100 artists and celebrities and opened 3 free libraries in rural Banyuwangi area in East Java in 2006.
Denada’s recent album, “Call Me Dena” with its first single “Bisa Gila” was launched in November 2010.
